Homemade healing

Thursday after preschool, Summer started to complain of an earache.  Her first earache!

So we went home, ate a healthy lunch (including afore-posted broth) and heated up a warm pack.  The warm pack was made last year for warming up a cold bed using rice and fabric picked by Summer.  So we warmed it up and the kids went off to sleep for the afternoon.

So while they were sleeping, I mixed up some garlic oil.  Mash one clove into a glass jar and cover with oil.  Let it rest, the longer the better.  I only had an hour or two until the kids woke up so I heated the jar in a saucepan full of water.

Once Summer woke up, she was a little hesitant to let me drop some oil in her ear.  But I promised her it wouldn’t hurt and told her she could watch a little movie while the oil rested in her ear.  Sold!  So I heated up her warm pack and set the oil on it (it had cooled while she was sleeping).  I dropped a few drops into the ear, then used a bit on my fingers to massage her ear and neck in a downward direction to help promote drainage.

Ok so Homegrown Garlic + Handmade Heat pack = Happy, Healthy Girl!  No more earache!!!

And I just want to add that the original homemade healing was breastmilk.  I’m a little apprehensive of our first winter without someone nursing (Summer only nursed until almost 2 but whenever she was sick, she’d get a little cuppa pumped milk!) and staying at home in our little cocoon.  And up they grow…..
