A Februaury weekend away with my good friend Darla! This is the second year we’ve done this and man, is it wonderful!
We started Saturday with the drive, a quick walk around The Commons and then on up to Cornell University’s Outdoor Education to pick up our snowshoe rentals! The shop manager was super nice and directed us up to Buttermilk Falls State Park where we picked up the Finger Lakes Trail for an amazing and blustery hike!
We ended the night with good food and with intentions of seeing some music……..but truth be told, we were wiped out and turned in early with funny movies and dessert in bed 😉
Sunday was shopping! This mama gets to shop alone only one time a year…on this vacation! While I love being out and about with my kids, there is really something to be said for being able to pick things up, stop and really look at each item. And think. And not be worried things will be picked up (or knocked over) by little hands. The shops in downtown Ithaca are exquisite. Lots of beautiful, hand crafted items that are truly one-of-a-kind. Me thinks we’ll be heading back over on a before-Christmas shop-a-thon later in the year!
Sunday ended with lunch at Simeon’s, a restaurant we passed over the day before. The menu is short but delicious…..and one more time before heading home we had to indulge!
While it’s fun to mix it up, it will be hard to decide not to return again next year. But I hear there are phenomenal festivals in the summer. And Buttermilk Falls in the summer? Yes, please! Day trip anyone???
