quiet in the woods

This afternoon, we started as a quartet in the hunting blind. But sitting still and quiet in the NY woods is tough; especially tough for one 4 year old boy. As much as he loves hunting and all things deer, he does not love holding still or talking quietly. With a quick promise of a call if any deer were down, Daddy and John left the blind.
Which left me and my girl. She did so well, thumbing through pictures on the camera and whispering spelling words. I told her what a great job she was doing. “It’s probably because I’m tired,” she said. We carved out a comfy spot with camo padding all around. And that, my friends, is how you get quiet in the woods.
(and since there is only a photo of a darling sleeping girl, you can guess there was no trophy. Better luck next time….)
